When Michael Clarke formed his version of the BYRDS in 1987 he asked Skip Battin and Carlos Bernal to join that group.

When Carlos Bernal left, Michael Clarke asked John York to join the band. John York agreed and this kept three former members of the BYRDS in the group.

At the end of 1989 John York left, but Michael Clarke continued to tour with his version of the BYRDSas a quartet. There were even discussions about a studio album of the group. On stage the group offered a mixture of old BYRDS songs and new songs, mostly written by Terry Rogers or Jerry Sorn.

Michael Clarke's BYRDS even toured Europe in 1991. While in Germany they discussed the possibilities of releasing a live album, but apart from a dubious release on a small German label nothing else happened.

The only recording of that group, which got officially released, seems to be the song "The Flame" which was released on a cassette sampler. The proceeds of this sampler were donated to the AIDS foundation.
